In a wild tactical affair between two Danish trainers that featured sending offs on both sides, Bo Henriksen’s FSV Mainz 05 have prevailed over Jess Thorup’s FC Augsburg in a five goal-thriller at the WWK-Arena. Round Four of the 2024/25 German Bundesliga got off to an insane start with Mainz having to cope with the loss of Nadiem Amiri on double yellows in the first half whilst Augsburg then lost Samuel Essende to a straight red in the second. In the end, a brace from Mainzer striker Jonathan Burkardt helped Henriksen’s visiting Rheinhessen carry the day over Thorup’s hosting Fuggerstädter. Late VAR drama kept the turbulent affair gripping right up until the very end.
