Hazard will “battle” for a spot on the Real Madrid

Eden Hazard has reiterated that he wants to stay at Real Madrid to fight for his place, but expects his situation could change after the World Cup

Hazard will travel to the World Cup in Qatar with the Belgium team, but more than a few games played with Real Madrid. The 31-year-old has made just six appearances all season for his team and is on his way to packing his bags and leaving Los Blancos, but he has insisted he wants to stay in the team and fight for a place in it.

“I don’t want to leave Real Madrid. Maybe my situation will change after the World Cup”, he said in a press conference organized before the competition.

“I want to play but it is the manager who makes his choices. I accept them, but I want to show him that I deserve to play more. When you don’t play it’s difficult.”

The more time passes, the more Hazard’s move to Real in 2019 looks like the worst ever for a player. Los Blancos paid Chelsea an initial fee of €100m and handed him a hefty contract until 2024, but since then the Belgian has suffered a number of injuries and shown inconsistency in form. So far he has only made 72 appearances since his transfer.

At the age of 31, it could be Hazard’s last World Cup for Belgium, especially considering his frequent injuries. Good performances at the World Cup could change Real’s mind, however.
